DUMP TRUCK ROLLS OVER ONTO PASSENGER CAR

According to authorities, the fatal truck accident took place early on the morning of November 11, as a dump truck was traveling on Farm to Market 1626 in Buda, Texas. Reports indicate that the truck was headed east when its driver, Armando Santian, lost control and struck a car in the opposite lane that had stopped when it saw the dump truck swerving. After colliding with the other vehicle, Santian’s truck then toppled onto a third car, with Foulkrod and her grandson inside, burying the vehicle with what appeared to be a load of dirt. According to Department of Public Safety Trooper Jacob Burlison, the dump truck hit a guardrail before landing on Foulkrod’s car, and “It’s a miracle” that the baby survived the accident.

PREVENTING TEXAS TRUCK ACCIDENTS

In the aftermath of the fatal truck accident, area residents have raised concerns about the safety of the heavily traveled stretch of FM 1626, which is the main connector between that section of Hays County and Austin, and is currently under construction. Although many believe the construction that is underway will help make the Texas roadway safer and prevent such tragic accidents, others are questioning what appear to be some major flaws in the plan. “My main concern is they’re not adding any extra stop lights for us trying to get out on the east side [of 1626] going north,” said resident Kirk Varney. “so we’re going to have to cross two or three lanes of traffic now.”
