Report Says Truck Driver Was Reckless In Moments Before Fatal Texas Crash

Truck

According to a recent report issued by the Texas Department of Transportation, a 19-year-old dump truck driver made mistakes in the moments before a tragic accident on Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway that killed an elderly couple in September. According to police, the dump truck jumped the concrete barrier on the freeway near Marsh Lane, striking the elderly couple’s Lexus and trapping a Mazda underneath it as well. The elderly couple was killed in the collision and a third person suffered non-life-threatening injuries. DUMP TRUCK DRIVER TOOK “FAULTY EVASIVE ACTION”

The dump truck involved in the fatal accident was registered to Rizo Trucking of Garland, Texas, and the driver was traveling through a construction zone when traffic slowed. According to the accident report, the driver, who was in the far right lane, took “faulty evasive action by improperly braking and steering to the left.” He lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the concrete barrier, pinning the Lexus and the Mazda underneath the dump truck. Tarleton Mullikin, 83, and Benna Mullikin, 81, were in the Lexus at the time of the accident and both were pronounced dead at the scene. The other trapped driver, Daniel Cerean, suffered minor injuries, and the drivers of two other cars involved in the wreck were not injured.
