Study Finds Increased Risk Of ADHD Among Children Exposed To Tylenol In Pregnancy

TylenolAccording to the findings of a new study, mothers who take Tylenol(acetaminophen) while pregnant may have a higher risk of giving birth to a baby who suffers from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) later in childhood. Estimates show that more than half of pregnant women use acetaminophen, which is alarming, considering researchers involved in this study found an association between Tylenol use in pregnancy and ADHD, as well as hyperkinetic disorders (HKDs). If you believe your child has been adversely affected by side effects of Tylenol pain reliever, consult our knowledgeable attorneys at Bandas Law Firm today. You may be entitled to financial compensation for your child’s injuries and medical expenses, which our legal team can help you pursue by filing a product liability lawsuit against Tylenol maker Johnson & Johnson.

POTENTIAL LINK BETWEEN TYLENOL & ADHD

Researchers involved in the Tylenol study, which was published February 24 in the journal JAMA Pediatrics, examined 64,322 children and mothers enrolled in the Danish National Birth Cohort from 1996 to 2002, searching for ADHD drug prescriptions, reports of behavioral problems and HKD diagnoses from healthcare providers. According to their findings, babies exposed to Tylenol in pregnancy were 29% more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD in childhood, and 37% more likely to be diagnosed with HKD by the age of seven. “Maternal acetaminophen use during pregnancy is associated with a higher risk of HKDs and ADHD-like behaviors in children,” the researchers wrote. “Because the exposure and outcome are frequent, these results are of public health relevance but further investigations are needed.”

TYLENOL LIVER DAMAGE LAWSUITS

The findings of this important Tylenol study comes as Johnson & Johnson faces more than 120 liver damage lawsuits filed on behalf of former Tylenol users who allege that the pharmaceutical giant failed to provide adequate warnings about the liver damage risks tied to the popular pain reliever. All of the Tylenol liver damage complaints involve similar allegations that the drug maker constructed an image for its blockbuster pain medication as a safe and effective drug, by concealing critical side effect information from consumers and the medical community. As Tylenol liver failure lawsuits continue to mount across the country, the complaints are being consolidated for pretrial proceedings and centralized before U.S. District Judge Lawrence F. Stengel in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Tylenol is one of the most trusted and widely used pain medications in the United States, taken by millions of Americans to relieve aches and pains and reduce fevers. However, the drug’s active ingredient is acetaminophen, which has been recognized by the FDA in recent years as a leading cause of liver injury in the U.S. In fact, the FDA has noted that acetaminophen overdose accounts for more than 50,000 emergency room visits, 25,000 hospitalizations and 450 deaths every year. If you have suffered liver damage or liver failure side effects and you believe Tylenol to be the cause, contact our product liability lawyers at Bandas Law Firm for legal help. Our attorneys have years of experience protecting consumers harmed by potentially dangerous drugs, and can help you pursue financial compensation for your alleged Tylenol-related injuries and medical bills.
