Massive Accident On Texas Highway Leaves Two Dead, 80 Others Injured

Truck pile-up

Two people were killed and more than 80 injured in a catastrophic motor vehicle accident in Texas on November 22, in which a dense fog caused a massive pile-up involving at least 140 cars and trucks. With over a hundred vehicles piled on top of one another on Interstate 10, authorities rushed to pull survivors from the twisted wreckage and get them the medical attention they needed. According to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Rod Carroll, 80 to 90 people were transported to area hospitals, with 10 to 12 of those accident victims in serious to critical condition. Unfortunately, two victims – a 60-year-old woman and 64-year-old man – were killed when their SUV was crushed by a tractor trailer, and more of the car accident injuries may prove to be fatal. According to reports from the Texas Department of Public Safety, an accident on the eastbound side of I-10 at around 8:45 a.m. led to numerous collisions in a devastating chain reaction, with multiple crashes on the other side of the highway occurring as well. Vehicles were reportedly spinning out of control on the roadway, hitting one another and resulting in a tragic Thanksgiving Day accident. “It is catastrophic,” said Carroll in response to the massive pile-up. “I’ve got cars on top of cars.” The wreckage of the Texas car accident extended for two miles of I-10, and it took more than nine hours to clear the highway of wrecked vehicles. Although mass collisions involving more than one hundred vehicles – such as this one – aren’t exactly common in Texas, fatal car accidents are. In Texas alone, 3,363 people were killed in traffic accidents in 2007, and thousands more were injured.

Although the dense fog has been blamed for the fatal Texas car accident, it is possible that victims of the tragic collision may have grounds to file a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit seeking compensation for accident-related injuries and deaths, particularly if the driver in the first collision is found to be at-fault for the following crashes.
