The deadly Texas car accident took place on March 4, on Old Jacksonville Highway near County Road 140. The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Smith County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene of the head-on collision at about 6:17 p.m. and found that a pickup truck traveling south on Old Jacksonville Highway had crossed the center line and collided head-on with an SUV, causing multiple injuries. The driver of the pickup truck involved in the wreck was transported to Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in unknown condition, and the driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. The other five passengers in the SUV were transported to East Texas Medical Center, including one man, who was sitting in the front passenger’s side seat when the accident occurred, and who later died from his injuries.

Authorities have not yet said what caused the Texas car accident, but some believe wet roads and heavy rain may have contributed to the wreck. In the aftermath of a deadly collision, the Texas Department of Public Safety urged drivers to slow down, use extra caution and increase following distance when dealing with wet road conditions, especially during periods of heavy rain.
