Oil Well Accident Victims Suffered Burn Injuries
Emergency responders received a call around 3:00 a.m. on January 29, about a fire at an oil well located on state Highway 110, north of Van, Texas. Multiple fire departments from Van, Tyler, Grand Saline and Lindale have actively tried to contain the fire, which engulfed two of the five large oil storage tanks at the facility, to keep it from spreading and causing other tanks to explode. According to Allen, the two victims injured in the explosion were allegedly smoking on stop of the storage tanks when one of the tanks exploded. Both victims were originally taken to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, but have since been moved to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Names of the victims have not been released, but officials do not believe that they work for the company that owns the oil storage facility.
