2 Killed, 1 Injured In Electrocution Accident At West Texas Oil Field

The Mitchell County Sheriff’s Department has released the names of the two men killed and one injured in an oil field accident in West Texas last month. Reports indicate that the men, all of whom worked for Midland-based Rayco Pumping Unit Service, were electrocuted while relocating an oil well pumping jack at an oil field near the town of Westbrook, Texas, about 80 miles northeast of Midland. If you have been injured in a Texas oil field accident, or if you lost a loved one in a fatal electrocution accident, contact our reputable attorneys at Bandas Law Firm today for legal help. FATAL ON-THE-JOB ELECTROCUTION

According to Sheriff Patrick Toombs, 24-year-old Laban Michael Robokoff and 35-year-old Harvey Ray McKinney were moving a pump jack to a new location when a cable from the winch truck came in contact with a power line. Both Robokoff and McKinney were electrocuted in the accident, and both workers died on the job site. McKinney’s 32-year-old brother, Steven, was also involved in the oil field electrocution accident, and was taken to the hospital in Colorado City with critical injuries, before being flown to a hospital in Lubbock.

“FATAL FOUR” OF JOB-SITE ACCIDENTS

Electrocution accidents on the job site occur far too frequently in Georgia and throughout the United States. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, one in five worker deaths in 2013 were in construction, and the leading causes of worker deaths on construction sites were falls, struck by object, electrocution and caught-in/between accidents. Considered the “Fatal Four” of job-site accidents, these types of workplace accidents were responsible for more than half of construction worker deaths in 2013, and statistics show that eliminating the Fatal Four would save 468 workers’ lives in the United States every year.
