Devastating Oil Industry Accidents In Texas
According to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, the victim of the oil field accident was 38-year-old Thomas Blain Stewart from Smithville, Texas, who had been living in nearby Buffalo Gap while working for the oil field services company, Abilene Pipe. Lt. John Cummins reported that Stewart was helping load the trailer at Abilene Pipe on the evening of his death, when the tank rolled from the trailer. The worker reportedly suffered a head injury when he was struck by the tank and died at the scene of the accident. Unfortunately, Stewart isn’t the only person to be seriously injured or killed in an oil field accident in Texas in the past year. In April 2012, a Texas oil field worker sustained fatal injuries when he slipped while doing service work on a drilling rig and fell 50 feet onto a steel floor. In November 2012, three oil industry workers were critically injured and three were killed in an explosion and fire aboard a Gulf oil platform owned by Houston-based Black Elk Energy.
