Two Workers Killed In Corpus Christi Construction Accident

Emergency

Two men were killed in a tragic construction accident in Corpus Christi over the weekend while working on an oil storage tank off Interstate-37. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the cause of the Texas work accident, which took the lives of 19-year-old Colton Huff of Temple, Georgia, and 57-year-old Andres Olivarez of Mathis, Texas. WORKERS CRUSHED AFTER ROOF COLLAPSES

According to police, the Texas construction site accident took place on December 15, while the two men were working on the roof of an oil storage tank near the intersection of Southern Minerals Road and Up River Road, off I-37. Huff and Olivarez were reportedly working for California-based Tarsco, Inc. at the time of the on-the-job accident, and were killed when some I-beams near the storage tank roof collapsed, crushing them both. Following the fatal work accident, Tarsco released an official statement regarding the tragic death of the two workers, stating: “Our thoughts are with their families and loved ones. At this time the incident is under investigation by OSHA and other authorities; additional details will be forthcoming at the appropriate time.”

The construction industry is inherently dangerous, and construction workers often put themselves at risk just by showing up to the job site each day. However, there are certain federal safety precautions established by OSHA that employers can put in place to protect construction workers from unnecessary harm on the job. When employers fail to do so, or when corners are cut to save the company time and money, workers are typically the ones who pay the price. It is still not clear what factors played a role in the Corpus Christi construction accident this past weekend, but OSHA investigators will determine if the tragedy could have been avoided. If you have been injured in a workplace accident in Texas, or if you lost a loved one in a fatal construction accident, consult our reputable lawyers at Bandas Law Firm today. You may have grounds to file a complaint in order to pursue financial compensation for your losses.
