Testosterone Product Lawsuits
Corpus Christi Dangerous Drug Attorneys, Serving Nueces County
Testosterone products are prescribed to treat men who have low testosterone levels (a condition known as hypogonadism). However, as is the case with a good many medical treatments, the use of testosterone products can deliver significant benefits to those who genuinely need them and undesirable side effects to those whose medical condition may not warrant such treatment.
If you suffered injuries or complications after using testosterone products, you may be entitled to financial compensation. Our Corpus Christi dangerous drug attorneys can help you understand your legal options and work to protect your right to a fair recovery. At Bandas Law Firm, P.C., we provide compassionate and personalized legal representation, as well as aggressive advocacy on behalf of our clients.

Unnecessary Use of Testosterone Products
The problem is that pharmaceutical companies are marketing “low-T” therapies to men who do not have hypogonadism, touting them as a way of increasing strength and vitality even in the absence of underlying conditions that might actually make the treatment medically desirable. Elderly men are encouraged to use the products as a way of staving off the effects of aging, and younger men are told of the extra energy the products can deliver during workouts.
As adverse effects come to light, testosterone attorneys are increasingly bringing lawsuits on the behalf of men who have suffered strokes, heart attacks, and other medical issues as a result of using testosterone products and who claim that they were not properly informed of potential risks.
In the United States, only three to seven percent of men actually have hypogonadism. Even so, over the last decade, the percentage of men taking testosterone supplements tripled. Researchers are concerned that testosterone therapy can pose significant risks for older men. In fact, at the Boston University School of Medicine, a study of “low-T” drugs was halted when researchers discovered that the men who were actually taking the drug were five times more likely to develop congestive heart failure and other cardio-vascular difficulties than those in the placebo group.
Risks May Outweigh Benefits
The issue with testosterone, attorneys say, is that their clients were generally healthy before beginning treatment. The basis for testosterone lawsuits is that the treatments are not proven to benefit healthy men and that the risks may far outweigh any benefits. Georgetown University’s Dr. Adriane Fugh-Berman agrees, saying that the therapy delivers “no proven benefit for healthy men,” and that so-called “low-T” therapy is nothing more than an invention by pharmaceutical companies that are looking for ways to market their products.
Lawsuits Involving Testosterone Products
Pharmaceutical companies are clearly making money from sales of “low-T” products, but they are coming under fire for improper sales practices. In Texas, a whistleblower lawsuit has been filed alleging that Solvay Pharmaceuticals has improperly marketed its product, AndroGel, representing it as an alternative to Viagra. Additionally, in Illinois, a class action lawsuit is underway alleging that major pharmaceutical companies including Pfizer, Auxilium, Abbvie, Abbott, and Pharmacia and Upjohn marketed drugs that caused deep vein thrombosis, strokes, pulmonary embolisms, and heart attacks. It is expected that there will be thousands of plaintiffs alleging harm from testosterone, and attorneys will be kept busy for some time to come.
Your Options
Pharmaceutical companies often try to rush a drug onto the market without proper testing. They may also try to conceal the various risks that are inherent in the use of the drug and may even try to circumvent FDA approval procedures by representing the drug as being virtually identical to another drug that has already been approved. When they engage in this type of conduct, they can be held liable for any harm that results from the use of their products.
If you have been prescribed a “low-T” treatment, for any reason, you should immediately consult with your doctor to determine if there are risks to your health. If you have suffered side effects, a Corpus Christi testosterone product attorney at our firm can help you to get the compensation you deserve for any harm you may have incurred.
