Work-Injury[1]One construction worker was killed and three others were injured when an activity building that had been under construction, collapsed on top of the workers, at Argyle High School, near Dallas, Texas. Argyle Investigation officials said two of the injured people were taken to the hospital for treatment, and students and school staff were not at the site at the time of the incident.

Construction workers frantically called 911 after the building suddenly collapsed on top of them. “It’s bad, it is bad. There’s people down, there’s people down,” one employees told the dispatcher. Another employee said, “We’re erecting a metal building and it collapsed. We need to get emergency personnel out here immediately. Employees quickly realized the death of their co-worker. Authorities have not released his identity. An eyewitness, Annabel Thorpe is a student at the school who witnessed the horrific incident.“They just said the structure started to wave,” said Thorpe. “The walls, they started moving and it all collapsed, like all sides just caved in and it created a huge noise.” Another source stated that the worker who died, was in a bucket on a vehicle when the building came down. The source says another employee quickly dove under another large piece of equipment when heard the framing collapse around him. The Occupational Safety and Health Association team of investigators is inspecting what’s left to determine the cause of the collapse, and if any workplace safety regulations had been violated. Before it collapsed, the frame stood 50 feet tall and 180 feet long.

According to the agency, the construction employees work for a subcontractor, Warnick Metal Building Erectors of Haltom City. The general contractor, Northstar Builders of Coppell. Superintendent Telena Wright said in a news conference. “This is a terrible, terrible tragedy, my thoughts go out to the family of the deceased and to those who were injured.” Wright said the Northstar Builders Group was responsible for the construction, which is part of a $45 million bond package that includes new tennis courts and new turf for the athletic fields.

Every year, there are hundreds of thousands of construction accidents with thousands of those taking the lives of workers on the job site. Construction accidents have become so common that OSHA even has a list of the “fatal four” or accidents that happen the most often: falls, struck by objects, electrocutions, and caught in equipment. At the Bandas Law Firm, we understand that workplace injuries of this type happen every single day, and we are familiar with Texas rules and regulations that surround construction accident cases.

Thanks to OSHA, you have rights as a construction worker, and OSHA can even help you determine the right way to file a complaint in the case of accidents and injuries. Keep in mind that your employer cannot demote or fire you just because you file a complaint, and OSHA is designed to protect this. Of course, you will still need the experience of an attorney to file the claim properly.

Construction accidents happen all too regularly, and they can result in serious injury or death. If you or a loved one has been involved in an accident on a construction site, then it is important that you get in contact with the Bandas Law Firm as soon as possible so that we can get to work for you.
